Congrats Raj! Definitely a model that shows promise with some of the other folks you mentioned. Good luck!

How exciting! I know you'll be successful in this next stage too, Raj. I look forward to the updates. Sounds like you, Bala and Sri are back at it!

I'm wondering if you think that this type of model could work on the Tech side as well. My company has helped start a few startups, by basically assuming the role of CTO & tech architects/implementers, but this has been a bit of an issue once VCs have gotten involved (they seem to want to get rid of us as soon as they can). We're currently in the process of trying to come up with a model that would allow us to build the technology for more startups while lowering our prices for entrepreneurs and assuming a bit more of the risk associated with outsourcing IT at this early stage.

I'm going to guess that given your location (Bay Area) that you may believe in the mantra we've heard that startups should never outsource IT, but I'm wondering if that thinking would change if the "outsourced" IT was more formally locked into the startup via an equity position (in the same way an Angel would be). Sorry to make assumptions about you--I obviously don't know you and I'm not even sure how your blog ended up on my "must read" list in my feeder--but we have run into this often enough to make it seem like a "truism" of VC.

Thanks for sharing! It's definitely a fascinating model: if I were starting up a new business I would take this option over traditional VC/Angel funding in a heart beat!

Raj, I believe this model would be much more suitable to people who might not having a strong team to back up while going for funding. Having a qualified professional on the table will not only help in getting funds but will also help companies in making nail-biting decisions. Would love to hear more about this model from you !!

Really like it! Will be following closely on when you start.
